…The King of Flowers,Rafflesia@ Cameron Highland…

Well, sharing with you guys another episode of traveling to Cameron Highland…

Me and xiangyun in front of rafflesia

I’ve been there at least once every year to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life and working stress, hehe! Cameron Highland is just like a heaven to me, nice weather, healthy food, fresh vegetables, picturesque views, and varieties of flowers!

Me and rafflesia…

But, I made this trip a little bit different by venturing to the jungle, just wanted to meet with the king of flowers, rafflesia!

Well, rafflesia tour isn’t a new thing in Cameron Highland, the tour has been started since 12 years back, it wasn’t popular at the beginning because of the price, it charged RM200 per person for the trip, and it is also seasonal, we can hardly see this beautiful flower during the monsoon season.

Entering the jungle

And sad to say we have to buy the tour for the flower, this is because we need a guide(the aborigines) and 4×4, Land Rover to enter the jungle…(there’s a alternative now! Follow my blog and I will tell you the cheaper way!)

Frankly speaking, the tour was exhausting, yet full of adventures! It seems like we were entering the dragon dent! In order to see the flower, we need to climb for one and a half hour, it wasn’t easy as we need to walk on the road full with mud, risking our life climbing the slope, and crossing the fast flowing waterfall…

Went down the steep slope…

Thanks to our guide, Pakcik Awuk! He is the local aborigine, thanks to him, we were able to taste the bamboo juice! It was awesome, I’ve never tried bamboo juice before, it was so refreshing! ( I didn’t get stomachache or diarrhea after that, so it is safe to drink, you will regret if you didn’t try this!)

According to him, there are 32 sites where we can spot rafflesia around Cameron Highland, and the rafflesia we saw here was at the site 7.

The inferior of rafflesia

So, for those who still don’t know what I’m talking about, rafflesia is a parasitic flowering plant, it contains approximately 28 species and they only found in Southeast Asia…And it is the biggest flower ever found in the world…

Rafflesia, the largest flower in the world…

The cabbages like bugs that produce before blooming are size of cabbage.

The Rafflesia is rare and fairly hard to locate. It is especially difficult to see in bloom; the buds take up to 10 months to develop and the blossom lasts for just a few days. However, how many these strange plants are survived in primary rainforest is still unknown.

The beauty of nature

We were lucky that day the the rafflesia we met just bloomed!

The flower also known as corpse flower, want to know why? When we approaching the flower, it seems like we were at a crime scene, flies and bees everywhere! But I can’t smell the odor which mentioned in the literature.Beware of those insects as one of our member got stung by the bee!

xiangyun…

We bought the tour for RM75, including BOH tea plantation, strawberry farm and butterfly farm, an extra RM20 needed for those who wish to continue their tour to mossy forest.

And for those just one to see the flower, you can contact Pakcik Awuk, 0116592757. You can make a call prior that, asking whether got flower or not, then you make an arrangement with him. A group of 10 or more is recommended, or if just only two to three, I would advice you to take the tour.
