…Koh Lipe, the Maldives of Thailand…

…Koh Lipe, the Maldives of Thailand…

Scenic View from our resort

After a good day’s rest and some shopping, we left Hat Yai and headed for Koh Lipe, the paradise we yearned for, since a long time ago.

Me and xiangyun @ Koh Lipe

How to get to Koh Lipe from Hat Yai?  There are lots of travel agencies situated just opposite  the Hat Yai train station.  Just randomly pick one and tell them that you are going to Koh Lipe and everything will be arranged for you.  For our journey to Koh Lipe, the price was RM110 per person (two way), inclusive of transportation to Pak Bara Pier and then by speed boat to Koh Lipe.

The duration from Hat Yai to Pak Bara pier took about 2 hours, and the speed boat trip from Pak Bara to Koh Lipe took another one and a half hour.

Me at Pak Bara Pier…

Well, there is something that those who went to Koh Lipe never mentioned before.  The boat ride; a speedboat we boarded which was supposed to fit a maximum load of 45 people,  turned out overloaded with more than 60 people on board not to mention  the luggages.  And the worst part of it was that there were strong winds on the day we went, with huge waves slashing the boat. The boat was swinging badly, what with the huge waves hitting against it and lots of seawater came splashing into the boat, making us all wet and feeling nauseated.

The local native with the long-tailed boat…

Trust me, the boat ride was terribly awful and for those who get sea motion sickness easily, an advice is to prepare antiemetic in advance before you board the boat.

Xiangyun at Sunrise Beach…

‘先苦后甜’Bitterness first and sweetness later;  this is the best saying I can think of to describe my trip to  Lipe.  After the sickening boat ride, we finally stepped on the land of Lipe… The Maldives of Thailand…..The one place I called ‘The Paradise Somewhere on Earth’!

We checked in ‘Idyllic Concept Resort’,   which I strongly recommend to everyone who wants to travel to Lipe.  We found this resort on the Agoda, a website where you can book your room at the lowest price.  We booked I-Comfy, for RM270 per night (the normal price was RM790. )

Words cannot describe exactly how superb the room was, so allow me to show you the room I booked via photos.  (A picture says a thousand words.)

Our room, I-Comfy @ Idyllic Concept Resort…

That was me, sitting at the bar-counter, and the other-half of the room …

There are a few more nice and cheaper resorts around Koh Lipe,  and the reason why I choose ‘Idyllic ‘ was the pictures shown on the website;  which did not disappoint me for the room was big and the concept of the room is brilliant.  The beach was clean with crystal-clear water, nice food and awesome staff.  As soon as you arrived at Koh Lipe, the resort staff will direct you straight to the resort with a buggy, and you will be received with a warm welcome once you reach the resort,  a 4 -Star service , worth every cent of your money.

Others choices of resorts available like…

Anda Resort

Mountain Resort

Some others resorts run by local natives

Castaway,Koh Lipe…

You can spend the rest of your leisure time here in ‘Idyllic Resort’, watching sunrise with your loved one, swimming in the sea, sun bathing, snorkeling in the crystal clear water with all type of fishes swimming around you, canoeing around the island (which is free of charge), quenching your thirst with the fresh coconut juice (it is not easy to get coconut juice on the island, we asked a few restaurants  before but none of them got any coconut juice, except ‘Idyllic’ ) and having cocktails at the pool-side bar and not forgetting the delicious seafood!!!!!

Walking street in Koh Lipe…

A trip to Koh Lipe is one of the best and cheapest way for a total escape from the hectic life of the city, as this is the time where you can regenerate your energy, let your mind be totally free from stress and work, and just relax and enjoy the sun and the sea, and feel  totally refreshed.

Local native fixing the fishing net…

You are totally isolated here in Koh Lipe.  The internet is limited to certain areas within the resort, and there is no EURO 2012 live telecast!!!!!  I missed a few important matches while on the island.

Koh Lipe,Thailand…

This is the only most beautiful beach with crystal clear water, and tranquil nature with the chirping of bird.  There are three main beaches on Koh Lipe, the Sun Rise Beach which is the most famous and beautiful one;  you just need to wake up around 5.30am in the morning and watch the sunrise just in front of your resort. Pattaya Beach situated with the most resorts and hotels and Sun Set Beach which is least famous one.

Painting the long-tailed boat…

Motorbike is the main transportation on this island and it is easily accessible on foot. All major beaches are within walking distance. Best to take note that the most beautiful sunset is at the beach of Mountain Resort.  (A buggy ride to the Mountain Resort from other part of the island is RM5 per person for one-way.)

Watching the sunset…

The sunset of Koh Lipe…

Bear in mind that it is not easy to walk around during night time as there are only a few lamp posts at the major roads on the island.  You might need a handy torch-light to light up your way at night.  (It is better to just stay-put at your resort and enjoy a mug of cold beer while gazing at the twinkling stars high up in the sky .)

It is a new tourist attraction here, so don’t be surprised that you can see lots of constructions and new resorts being built around the island.   Just pray hard and hope that these will not cause any damages to the beauty nature of Koh Lipe.

It is a superb place for those seeking a short trip which is nice and yet worthy of every cent of your money.

xiangyun@Idyllic Concept Resort…

Our total expenditure worked out to about RM800 per pax for transportation and accommodation for Hat Yai and KohLipe; which got us a nice place to stay, a cheaper trip in total,  making our Koh Lipe trip fun and memorable.  (The snorkeling trip around the islands of Koh Lipe wasn’t included in the budget, which may cost another RM150 – RM200 depending on which route you take.)

In my opinion, if you go in twos or fours, you can take my route as a reference, but if you are travelling in groups, I suggest that it is better to take a minivan or bus from Malaysia to Hat Yai as the train ride wasn’t as comfortable as I thought it to be.

But all in all, it was really a fun and memorable trip for Yun and I.
